Who We Are

A practice built on listening and on staying

We formed Muisca because we believed that purpose-driven organizations in Colombia deserved advisors who would sit with them rather than talk at them.

Our Story

How Muisca came to be

Muisca started in Bogotá in 2019, when two colleagues with backgrounds in nonprofit management and organizational development began talking about a gap they kept noticing: organizations doing meaningful work in their communities were often left to navigate complex decisions — around funding, staffing, or strategic direction — without a thoughtful outside voice to turn to.

Consulting for the social sector existed, but much of it was large-scale, expensive, and oriented toward organizations that had already reached a certain size. Smaller nonprofits, early-stage social enterprises, and community-based groups were either priced out or offered support that didn't fit their scale or pace.

We wanted to offer something different: accessible, personalized advisory shaped around the organization that needed it, not around a pre-packaged methodology. We chose the name Muisca as a nod to the people who inhabited the Bogotá savanna long before the city existed — communities known for their capacity to sustain complex social structures with limited resources, a quality we admire and often see reflected in our clients.

Since then, we've worked with a range of organizations across Colombia — from a youth arts collective in Medellín trying to articulate its theory of change, to an environmental foundation in the Eje Cafetero building its first multi-year funding plan. Each engagement has shaped how we work and what we believe good advisory looks like.

What We Believe

Values that shape how we work

Listening before advising

We arrive curious, not certain. Every organization has context we don't yet understand, and we try to honor that before offering anything.

Honest over flattering

We share what we genuinely observe, including things that are harder to hear. We do this gently, but we don't withhold it.

Sustainable over fast

We're not interested in quick fixes. We work at a pace that the organization can absorb and build on over time.

Partnership over delivery

We see ourselves as collaborators, not vendors. The work belongs to the organization — we're here to help shape it.

The People

Who you'll be working with

A small team, deliberately so. We keep our practice small enough that every client relationship gets our full attention.

How We Work

Our professional standards

The commitments we hold ourselves to in every engagement, regardless of scope or duration.

Full confidentiality

Nothing shared in our sessions leaves the room. We treat organizational information with the same discretion we'd want for our own.

Clear written agreements

Before any engagement begins, we set out in writing what we'll do, what we won't, what it costs, and what you can expect at the end.

Responsive communication

We respond to emails within two working days. We don't leave organizations waiting when they have questions about ongoing work.

Honest assessment

We share what we observe, not what might be easiest to hear. Our value to clients depends on being candid, so we protect that even when it's uncomfortable.

No conflicts of interest

We disclose any relationship that might create a conflict before beginning work. We don't accept referral fees or commissions from third parties we recommend.

Continuous learning

We stay current with the Colombian nonprofit and social enterprise landscape — funding trends, regulatory changes, and sector-specific developments — so our advice reflects what's actually true today.

Business consulting for the social sector in Colombia

Organizations working toward social change in Colombia operate in a particular environment. Funding is often tied to short project cycles. Governance structures may be informal or still developing. Leadership teams are stretched. The kind of advisory that works in a large corporate context often fits poorly here.

Muisca was built for this setting. Our three service engagements — the Mission Clarity Session, the Sustainability Companion, and the Impact Study — are each designed to be useful within the real constraints of purpose-driven work. They are priced accessibly, delivered at a considered pace, and shaped around what your organization can actually do with the advice.

We work across the nonprofit and social enterprise spectrum: community organizations, advocacy groups, social cooperatives, environmental foundations, arts collectives, and educational initiatives. What they share is a commitment to something beyond commercial return, and that is the context we understand best.

Our advisors hold direct experience in nonprofit management, funding strategy, and organizational assessment. We work in Spanish and English, and we're familiar with the funding landscape across Colombian regions including Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, and the coffee-growing regions.
